Last March we found this little beanie while in Seattle. We knew we were pregnant but hadn’t shared the news with anyone. While I was hesitate to buy anything because our past loss, Lloyd had hope and purchased this little mushroom beanie, and oh I’m glad he did.

The cutest little boy and the biggest blessing. A living beacon of hope 🍄

The longest and shortest month of my life. The nights are long.There have been tears and endless yawns, from all of us. But, goodness this season is so sweet. Here is to early mornings, 3am snuggles, and never having warm coffee but always having a full heart.

EVERYDAY HOLY

It’s five in the morning, the sun is inching its way across the sky. While the rest of the world enjoys the last hours of sleep, I instead am beholden to the cries of my newborn son. In these still small early mornings, it is just the two of us. We both yawn as our day begins. He is just beginning to explore & learn this world and I am just beginning to learn him.

In just a few short days of having him here in my arms, everything has changed. Hours somehow slip by unaccounted for except for the growing pile of laundry and dishes. At the same time, the days seem to leak into each other without much to mark the passing of time. My house is a mess, there are teeny tiny onesies piled on the floor and I have yet to finish a cup of coffee. Yet, there is something overwhelmingly holy about this season, about these hours of ordinary mess. Each batch of laundry that contains burp clothes and each bottle washed is a reminder of the answered prayer I hold in my arms. Not just one prayer but days, months, years of prayer, of asking the Lord for a child to hold. I am not sure my heart has quite grasped this yet, the blessing that is my son.

With each burp, dirty diaper, and early morning feed I feel myself sitting in the everyday holy. Admist exhaustion where all I have is a whispered thank you, my heart is full.

Through the excitement of our first positive test
Through the grief of the loss
Through the lonely empty days that followed

Through the joy of hearing a heartbeat
Through the anxiety of the unknown
Through every single day that has dawned
And every day that has yet to come

There was another in the fire, another in the waters.

“But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, Jacob, and formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. When you pass through waters, I will be with you;
through rivers, you shall not be swept away.
When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned,
nor will flames consume you.” - Isaiah 43:1-2

We are ready when you are Baby Wing 💛🌈

A year ago in the pangs of grief I sat in this beautiful chapel and begged God to heal us, to heal me. We were quickly approaching the would have been due date for our first child and I was overwhelmed with sorrow.

I sat in the chapel for a long while and just stared at the striking image of Our Lady and Jesus. I genuinely couldn’t look away. When I converted to Catholicism years ago I was still hesitant to embrace Mary as my Mother in any capacity. But looking at her in that moment I realized how close Mary’s heart was to my own sorrowful heart. This incredible, gentle woman who so lovingly held her son as her nursed, was the same mother who then held him once again her arms as he was taken from the cross. I realized that if anyone understands the heart of a grieving mother it is Our Lady.

Today I rejoice for the life growing inside me as we quickly approach another due date. What a blessing, what a miracle.

For all of the mothers with children awaiting them in heaven.
For all of the mothers awaiting birth.
For all of spiritual mothers in our lives.
For all of the mothers.

My favorite thing about film is often you forget what pictures you took before you even get the roll developed so it’s like a sweet surprise when the scans come in!

These pictures span a few short months of my life but they cover so much. There a shots from last November where we were deep in mourning over the anniversary of what would have been our due date of our first little one. Then there are shots from this March shortly after we found out about the blessing of our second child.

Obviously these emotions are hard to capture on film but they are there behind every shot. But, mostly what it reminds of it’s Gods promise and goodness. There was a time last year I did not think I could endure November, but I did. I quite literally have the pictures to prove it.

These pictures remind of Gods goodness, his steady presence in my life. He isn’t good because he blessed us with another child he is good because he is God.

He was good through every trial, every moment of grief and he is still good now.

Thank you Lord for your hand on my life and all the times I could see you, could not feel you , could not hear you… you were still there. You never left my side.

“And that is why I am glad of weakness, insults,constraints, persecutions and distress for Christ’s sake. For it is when I am weak that I am strong” - 2 Corinthians 12:10
